GALAPAGOS ISLANDS - 2005
For this trip, I spent eight days aboard the Angelito I, a tourist class motor yacht which accommodates up to 16 passengers. Smaller groups make the island excursions more enjoyable. Our visit took us to the islands of Seymour, Santiago, Genovesa, Rabida, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Plazas and Espanola. We spent our days walking the islands and snorkeling in tropical waters; nights were spent sailing to the next island. December is a great time to see nesting birds and sea lion colonies. Everywhere you step, there is a bird, iguana, lizard, sea lion or interesting plant to observe. Animal behavior is incredible as the wildlife is uninhibited by the human presence here. However, the tourism industry has required more land to be allocated for human habitat as native Ecuadorians move to the islands for good jobs; with the increase in human visitors, some animals and birds are becoming almost too friendly.
