GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST
(British Columbia - 2013)
At long last last... well it seems like a long tme already since I returned from this short, but wonderful trip to British Columbia.
The objective of this adventure was to witness the Spirit Bear - a white black bear (not a cross with a polar bear but a recessive gene in the black bear population).
This elusive bear is a signficant part of the First Nations culture, as is nature in general. While I didn't get to see the Spirit Bear while I was there, I did get to see grizzly bears (up close!), black bears, humpback whales, and orcas.
I met some truly wonderful people, and learned much about this enchanting wilderness.
This female humpback whale had a calf with her and she is smacking her fluke on the water to warn against the orcas that were in the area
